Carabinersare most commonly made from aluminum because it is lighter than steel. Aluminum wears easier though and is typically not as strong (though strong enough, if rated to at least 20kN, as all climbing carabiners are). Make sure to periodically inspect your carabiners and retire them if they have significant wear or sharp edges.
