Used to join two similar sized ropes for rappel. Despite also being known as the European death knot, if dressed properly and with 12 inches of tail, this is a reliable knot.
- Bring the two strands together with the ends facing the same way, then tie an overhand knot with both strands. Dress it so that there are no crosses in the knot - i.e. so that the strands are nice and parallel.
The knot can be used to join slightly different diameters of rope. Putting the smaller strand closer to the load axis (as shown) is preferred.
