Hexentrics are a form of traditional rock climbing protection. The head is a piece of metal attached to a wire. The hexentric can be placed passively in a constriction in the rock, and the wire is clipped with a quickdraw. Some hexentrics can also be placed in an active mode, causing a camming action when the wire is loaded.
