Used to prevent a rope from slipping through a belay device, during belay and rappel.
- Form a loop of rope over two fingers, then do another loop around your fingers and go back through the loop again.
One half shows an "X" and the other shows parallel lines.
The knot is useful by itself, but it also forms half of the double fisherman's.
